Change of Class

Registrants may apply to change their class of registration at any time during the registration year. Processing time varies between 2–10 business days and 10–12 weeks, depending on the type of class change, the type of review required (staff or Committee), and the time of year.

Types of class changes

There are three types of class changes available under the Registration Regulation:

  • General to Inactive.
  • Inactive to General (under two years).
  • Inactive to General (two years or more).

Application for General class to Inactive class

To apply to change from the General to the Inactive class of registration, you must submit a completed General Class to Inactive Class application form, pay the associated class change fee and provide proof of having purchased enduring or tail coverage for professional liability insurance for a minimum period of five years from your last patient visit.

Fee: $100 (plus HST)

Application for Inactive class to General class (under two years)

To apply to change from the Inactive to the General class of registration, having held Inactive registration for less than two years, you must submit a completed Inactive Class to General Class (under two years) application form, pay the associated class change fee and provide proof of having purchased professional liability insurance coverage in the amount and form set out in section 19 of the College by-laws.

Fee: $100 (plus HST)

Application for Inactive class to General class (over two years)

Class change applications from Inactive to General, where the Registrant has been Inactive (Inactive class registration or has had a non-clinical TCL on their General class certificate) for two years or more, are required to undergo review by a panel of the Registration Committee to assess currency of skill and knowledge.

To apply to change to the General class, having been Inactive for 2 years or more, you must submit a completed Inactive Class to General Class (two years or more) application form, and pay the associated class change fee.

Following receipt, Registration staff will provide you with the tools for self-assessing any gaps in skill or knowledge that may have occurred in the time since you last practised the profession, a learning plan to set out to the Panel how you will remediate these gaps, and additional information for submitting documentation to the Panel for review. You may be required to undergo additional training, education, or examinations as determined necessary by the Panel.

Prior to approval of the class change, you will be required to provide proof of having purchased professional liability insurance coverage in the amount and form set out in section 19 of the College by-laws.

Processing time: 10–12 weeks, depending on the meeting schedule of the Registration Committee, which meets once a month, and the fulsomeness of the submission made to the Panel.
