Here for Your Safety

The College of Naturopaths of Ontario is the governing body and sole regulator of naturopathic doctors across the province. Our job is to protect all patients seeking naturopathic treatment by ensuring their right to safe, competent and ethical care.

The College’s roles and powers are described under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and the Naturopathy Act, 2007. They include:

  • registering naturopathic doctors who have met the professional requirements to allow them to practise in Ontario;
  • developing, monitoring and updating Standards of Practice and other Guidelines—rules and policies that all NDs working in Ontario must adhere to;
  • ensuring NDs in remain current with their practice, as well as building their knowledge base and capabilities through rigorous quality assurance and continuing education programs, as well as practice hour requirements; and
  • investigating complaints against NDs and conducting hearings when necessary for alleged professional misconduct or incompetence.

Want to Make a Difference in Health Care?

Patient perspectives are crucial to making sure naturopathic regulation remains progressive, effective and safe. That is why the College encourages participation in the Citizen Advisory Group, which was created to bring patient voices and feedback to the forefront of Ontario health regulation.

Formed in 2015, the group’s members are patients who provide essential feedback on a variety of topics, including professional rules, standards and policies, strategic priorities and public communications.

If you or someone you know is passionate about patient-centric care, please consider applying to join the Citizen Advisory Group. It is important that a diverse range of patient experiences are represented.
