Letters for COVID-19 Vaccination Exemptions

Posted On: September 22, 2021

We’ve received several enquiries from Registrants asking if they can provide letters to patients to exempt them from getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

NDs are not authorized to provide patients with COVID-19 vaccine exemption letters. Directive #6 issued by Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) pursuant to section 77.7 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA) requires that written proof of a documented medical reason for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can only be provided by a physician or registered nurse in the extended class. An ND providing a vaccine exemption letter would thus be a breach of the HPPA.
