Changing Class of Registration

Members can change their class of registration at any time during the membership year; however, the time that it will take for the College to process a request to change class will range from 10 business days up to 10-12 weeks depending on the type of class change request.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
For Registration Renewal 2020, class change applications received after March 17,2020 will not be processed until April 1, 2020. Members who have not met the March 17, 2020 deadline for class changes will be expected to renew their registration in their current class of registration. See below for details.

Types of Class Changes

There are three types of class changes that are available to Members under the Registration Regulation:

  • General Class to Inactive Class
  • Inactive Class to General Class (Under 2 years)
  • Inactive Class to General Class (2 years and over).

General Class to Inactive Class

Members in the General class who wish to change to the Inactive class of registration must submit a completed application form, which will be verified, pay a fee of $100 (plus HST) and provide proof of having purchased enduring or tail professional liability insurance coverage for a minimum period of five years. Class changes in these circumstances can be processed relatively quickly by the College and generally take up to 10 business days. The process can be initiated by downloading and completing the following Change of Class form.

Inactive Class to General Class (Under 2 years)

Members who have been in the Inactive class of registration for less than two years and wish to change to the General class of registration must submit a completed application form, which will be verified, pay a fee of $100 (plus HST) and provide proof of having purchased professional liability insurance coverage in the amount and on the form as set out in the by-laws. Class changes in these circumstances can also be processed relatively quickly by the College and generally take up to 10 business days. The process for this type of class change can be initiated by downloading and completing the following Change of Class form.

Inactive Class to General Class (2 years or more)

Members who wish to change to the General class and have been in the Inactive class of registration or in the General/Inactive class with a Non-clinical TCL for two years or more must submit a completed application form, which will be verified, pay a fee of $275 (plus HST) and provide proof of having purchased professional liability insurance coverage in the amount and on the form as set out in the by-laws. In these circumstances, the Registration Regulation requires that the Registration Committee review the application to change class. As a result, this process may take 10-12 weeks to complete, depending on the information provided and the meeting schedule of the Registration Committee (they meet once a month). The process for this type of class change can be initiated by downloading the following Change of Class form.

Class Changes during Registration Renewal
Are you planning on changing your registration class? You’ve got until March 17, 2020 to do it.

Members who want to renew in a different class of registration (Active or Inactive) for 2020-21 have until 5 p.m. on March 17, 2020 to submit their class change application and fee so it can be approved, and the class change made, before the March 31, 2020 renewal deadline.

Not renewing on time will result in the application of a late fee and the possible suspension of your certificate of registration.

  • March 17, 2020 is the last day a complete class change application will be accepted for processing.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please take the time to ensure your forms are complete and accurate before submitting them.
  • Be mindful of processing times during renewal; 10 business days up to 10-12 weeks depending on the type of class change request (e.g., over 2 years in Inactive class will need to be reviewed by the Registration Committee which meets once a month).
  • Registration fees are non-refundable. This means you may end up having to pay more to change class if you do not meet the March 17, 2020 deadline (e.g., if changing from Active to Inactive class).
