Issuance of a Certificate of Registration

Purpose

This third and final step to the registration process was created with the intent of eliminating the challenges some applicants face when trying to purchase professional liability insurance before being registered, as well as to eliminate the unnecessary cost of carrying such insurance before the applicant is able to practice.

Cost


The membership year with the College runs from April 1 to March 31.  The membership fee for the 2017 membership year is $1,522.00 plus HST. 

For those applying for their initial certification of registration with the College, the fees are prorated by the date the certificate of registration is issued. Note that the date of application does not necessarily predict registration date.

All fees are subject to HST and fees for the first year of registration are broken down as follows:

  • Applicants registered from March 1 to June 30 pay 100% of fees:

$1,522.00 + HST

  • Applicants registered from July 1 to September 30 pay 75% of fees:

 $1,141.50 + HST

  • Applicants registered from October 1 to December 31 pay 50% of fees:

 $761.00 + HST

  • Applicants registered from January 1 to February 28 pay 25% of fees:

 $380.50 + HST

    Membership fees are over and above all other fees and are non-refundable. All fees are payable in Canadian dollars and can be paid online with Visa or Mastercard, or by mailing a cheque or money order made payable to the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.  An NSF charge is applied for cheques returned due to insufficient funds or for processing payments against credit cards that are declined.

    Please note that Visa Debit cards are not currently accepted.


    Required Information


    In this final step of the registration process, applicants are required to provide the following:
    • A recent passport-sized photo;
    • Proof of professional liability insurance information; and
    • Pay their registration fees.  

    Required Photo


    All applicants to the College who are ready for the issuance of a certificate of registration must provide a photograph, which will be displayed on the member’s profile on the Public Register.  The photograph must:
    • Have been taken within three months of the date it is submitted to the College;
    • Be passport-sized;
    • Have been taken by a commercial photographer with the name and complete address of the photo studio stamped on the back, as well as the date the photo was taken; and
    • Be signed by a guarantor (a member of any regulated profession in Ontario) who must sign his or her name and clearly write: "I certify this to be a true likeness of (applicant’s name)".
    Photos must be attached to the College's Photo Submission Form which can be downloaded from the Registration page of the Handbooks, Tools and Forms section of the Resource Library.  Please click here to access the form.
    As the photo must be mailed or delivered to the College, this can be submitted in advance of completing the registration process.

    Proof of Professional Liability Insurance


    Once logged into the website, the applicant will be required to provide the following details:
    • Name of insurance provider;
    • Name of insurance broker;
    • Phone number of insurance broker;
    • Policy number;
    • Coverage amount; and
    • Expiration date.

    Proof of insurance must also be uploaded and clearly show:
    • Applicant’s name;
    • Policy number;
    • Limit of liability; and
    • Policy term.

    Instructions


    While the photo must be sent or delivered to the College, the remainder of the process can be completed online.

    Once notified by email of one's eligibility to register, following review of the Application for Registration, applicants may log into the website and follow the directions provided by staff to enter the required professional liability information, upload proof of insurance, complete the declaration, and pay the registration fees.

     

    Next Steps


    Once the College has received payment, reviewed the insurance information provided and uploaded the photograph to the Public Register, a confirmation email which will include a registration number and instructions on accessing the certificate of registration, will be sent. Note: Registration is not complete until all necessary documentation and fees have been submitted and notification of registration has been sent by the College.


    Other Important Information

    • Registration cannot be completed if the photograph has not been received, does not meet the requirements, or cannot be identified. To avoid delays, please attach the photo to the completed Photo Submission Form.
    • The photo must be passport-sized, but doesn’t have passport photo restrictions, i.e. you are permitted to smile and wear glasses.
    • Not all insurance companies cover the full naturopathic scope of practice. When researching professional liability insurance be sure any policy considered covers the full scope of practice of the profession.The College does not approve insurance providers. 
    • All correspondence from the College is sent electronically; applicants are asked to make sure a current email address is provided and updated as necessary.
